The next world-changing, big Idea?

I’ve been reading Hugh MacLeod’s ‘Gapingvoid.com‘ for a while now. And he is usually a very interesting read. Heck I carry around business cards designed by him for one of my bands (the Dissonance). But there is some very strong, not-PC, stuff there, so tread carefully.

Hugh currently has a three-part blog post on Microsoft’s Next Big Idea and I have to say, I’m under-whelmed. It’s not exciting enough, pointing to advances in TV-serving software. Blah. I think investments in social software is where it’s at for the future. Ever been sucked into the void that is Second Life? It’s addictive for way too many people. (Suzy asked me to stop spending so much time there so I uninstalled all the software. I was spending about 20 to 30 hours of free time a week there.) Not your cup of tea, then try World of Warcraft, according to my daughter.

And for the business world there’s Linked In. This is the start of a world where citizens will never want to come out of their caves (homes). I’m not sure how great that is but it’s coming for a lot of people. But it’s what I’m reading about with great interest.

Happy New Years readers. :o)
