He sez, "One thing in particular that caught my attention:
They were working to have a community write a book. They said that they went through 5-6 different processes trying to control the style of writing. All of them failed.
The only way they were able to move forward was to give up trying to control things like style. They had to give up the thought that they owned the content (including the writing style) and accept that ownership of the content was transferred to the community."
I haven’t read their book yet – but this looks like an interesting read.

Now THIS is going to be fascinating. And no surprise about the failure to enforce a style, as it were. That wasn’t a school class after all. Why kill any and all spontaneity? Sigh. What was it in Pogo? We have met the enemy and he is us? Well, trying to quash the style and individuality of the writers was self defeating.

Recently a classmate and I had to write a paper and work up a presentation for an assignment. Rather than let her write half of it I ended up doing the whole thing. I’m very possessive of what I write and of the way I write it and I fear giving up that control. "Our" paper got an A. 😉
