My Excesses, No Excuses

survivor11 I was just thinking the other day about things that I love to do that most people would consider a waste of time. And it hit me that I have accumulated a lot of extra stuff to do that doesn’t put food on the table or make me a better person. So I thought I’d list some of them here. Then maybe in five or ten years I’d come back and see what had changed.

1. Survivor, the TV reality show.

2. MySpace, the place I connect with musicians.

3. The Dissonance, my jazz xTet. (Plus four other bands!)

4. Facebook, connection central.

5. Starbucks coffee, 3 – 4 times a week.

6. The Woodwind Forum, just ‘cuz it’s fun to talk music.

7. Classmates, still looking for friends I’ve lost track of.

8. Linked In, trying to catch up with all my work-based friends and acquaintances.

I try not to think how much time I spend on these sites. I didn’t even list Windows.Live.Spaces as we all know that isn’t a waste of time. ;o)  Maybe tomorrow I’ll blog about all the helpful places on the Internet that I frequent.

I don’t watch any reality TV.  I do waste a lot of time on the net though.  Coffe, unless decaf, I can’t have, so I settle for decaf tea.  I can find out all about my classmates at the class reunion in August if I go.  There are a few I would like to see again.
You just made a perfect point with this post; if it makes us happy and answers questions, it is not a waste of time.

Beth beat me too it, but as your posse member I have to agree with you (and Beth) that if you enjoy it..it is definitely not a waste of time.  It serves a purpose, each of these things and perhaps on several levels.

As was already so nicely expressed…I don’t think it is a waste of time either.

How can anything you love to do be a waste of time. As long as it makes you happy and you find enjoyment in it I say do what ever strikes your fancy. I never have really taken the time to watch a reality series perhaps I am missing something I may have to reconsider. I will confess to frivolous cappuccinos with an occasional shot of something, caramel perhaps to make it even more delicious. Is that possible can you make something even more delicious when it already tastes like heaven? Well I am not sure what Freudian thought lurks inside of someone to make them feel it is a waste of time to enjoy the things they desire but lets just say make yourself happy and all will be right with the world. Unfortunately I find myself spending so much time connecting to others instead of my family. I need to tip that balance and do my internet thang during off hours with the fam.
