Houston Food and the ride home

Some of us at the convention spent most of the trip asking around for authentic food joints. The recommendations were mostly for national chains like Chili’s and Cracker Barrel. We finally got an endorsement for Papa’s BBQ and headed over there. The crowd out front were mostly locals who greeted us and some vendors trying to sell us tamales before we even got into the restaurant.

The food serving size were huge and the pictures below don’t even begin to show how huge the servings were. The tea glass so large enough that you needed two hands to pick them up!

The decorations were a little more primitive than I would have chosen. I made sure we didn’t sit under the stuffed turkey or deer. And of course there was the obligatory Texas spurs chandelier.

The flight home was uneventful but I did try to capture some shots of Mount Rainier as we flew by. I was in an aisle set and had to reach over two people.

MtRainier

This doesn’t do the view justice, but often is the favorite part of my trip as the pilot jockeys to get as close to the mountain as possible. Whenever I see Mt. Rainier I think, "I’m home."  :o)

The pictures are so good that I am hungry now.  I wouldn’t want to sit under the stuffed things either.
By the way your mother is such a sweet lady.  I love her blog.

Welcome back! Wow that does look like a lot of food. I would be doing good to eat 1/4 of what’s on that plate. I’m surprised the recommendations for restaurants were the Chain ones, interesting. Love the picture of Mt.Rainer ~~~ someday I will see it too :-)

They do say everything is bigger in Texas! Love the spurs chandelier! LOLGorgeous shot of the mountain! My husband’s eyes lit up when he saw it. He was stationed at Fort Lewis for 4 years and has always talked of Mt. Rainier. I will have to have surgery on my left knee after I have the right one done.  So I’m requesting bionic parts in both. 😉

That is an excellent picture of Rainier.  Amber thinks we own that mountain because every time we see it I say, there is my mountain.  Every time I see Rainier I know I am home.

That really is a lovely picture of Rainier I can’t imagine what it may have looked like from a window seat thus not leaning over two people to get it:)
I am now truly hungry as I somehow landed here and still have not made a decision as to dinner .. funny how the thought and pictures of good food makes you feel like your starving all of a sudden too..lol
Seems you had a great trip and evening at the Houston Aquarium sounded lovely

I loved all of the pictures, but especially Mount Rainier.  I guess we all count it as our own special mountain.  I remember before we moved here, you told us how beautiful it was to wake up and see it every day.  Your newest camera is really a good one.  Thanks for sharing. Mom

When I flew to Portland last year it was very strange to be flying very close to and BELOW the volcano.  I was so nervous.  Now you tell me that the pilot does this intentionally….now I’m really nervous.I’m glad you had a good trip.  Welcome home.
