Microsoft Jazz Band ’08 – At Crossroads of Bellevue

Flat out the best band I’ve ever played with.

This was a pickup band put together for a one week run. We were celebrating Microsoft’s participation in the United Way of King County’s Day of Caring. So here are excerpts from Mulligan and Zoot Sim’s "The Red Door", "Makin’ Whoopie (but we can’t see the fabulous singer), Basie’s "Hayburner", and Gershwin’s "Summertime".

The band:

Vocalist: Sharon Adams

Sax 1 – Gordon Brown
Sax 2 – Scott Dart
Sax 3 – Suzy Glass
Sax 4 – Jim Glass
Sax 5 – Greg Cagle

Bone 1 – Jeremy Pritchett
Bone 2 – Andy Young
Bone 3 – Matt Stoecker
Bass Bone – Bryce Ferguson

Trumpet 1 – Gary Anderson
Trumpet 2 – Doug Hodges
Trumpet 3 – Jim Bradbury
Trumpet 4 – Thomas (TQ) Quinn

Piano – Frank Vanris
Bass – Brad Benefield
Drums – Tim Coffey

My only regret is that we have to wait another year to put this band back together.  :o)

    Great job!

Very nice! Why another year? Aren’t there other gigs you can play?

  3. Unknown's avatar JaAG says:

This band is comprised of people who play in many other bands and share the play they work as the single commonality. There has been talk about making this band a full-time venture, but the musicians are way to busy with other bands to even consider this one. And it would take a dedicated resource to make this happen. If I wasn’t already involved with three other bands, I might consider it. But it would not be an easy task.

Love the stand covers.  Gives a nice unified look for the front of the band. Band sounds good too.

This is a pickup band?  You should be doing the Microsoft commercials rather than Messrs. Gates and Seinfeld!Peace, Doc

    Hey Jim:

Not a bad sound at all coming from your camera; nice job.

I couldn’t agree more. This was an *awesome* band and I’m proud to have been a part of it.

This was indeed the best I’ve heard in a long time.  I loved the soloist too.  What a real voice!!  I thoroughly enjoyed this concert and wish it could be the main one of all the bands you two do.  Yes, Suzy’s banners that she made were a very nice addition.  Mom

Wow, what a great sound there! Love the pics of your new puppy, Amelia….please tell me about your cat. Is she/he a Bengal? Very cute. I loved all the photos. Not only do those instruments sound great, but they are real works of art in themselves.

sounds great!  hopefully we’ll get the work big band going soon, and you won’t need to wait another year to get the band back to
